Teri Doepke graduated with honors from the University of Georgia with a Bachelor of Arts in Sociology in 1996, and from the University of Georgia School of Law in 1999. She began her legal career working for smaller law firms in various areas, including family law and criminal defense, before joining the Alcovy Circuit Public Defender’s Office in 2005. By 2006, Teri had been promoted to the Chief Assistant Public Defender for the Alcovy Circuit, which position she held until leaving public defense to begin The Doepke Law Firm.
While Teri is an expert attorney, passionate about defending the rights of her clients, she is first a wife, mother, and active resident and member of the Covington business community. She offers each client the personal attention and compassion of a neighbor invested in our community.

Stephanie Tomys graduated summa cum laude from Berry College with a Bachelor of Arts in Government in 2014, and from Georgia State University School of Law in 2017. After graduating from law school, Stephanie was licensed by the State Bar of Georgia.
Stephanie began her legal career working primarily in Newton County in the areas of family law and criminal defense, before joining the Alcovy Circuit Public Defender’s Office in early 2020 where she defended clients in both misdemeanor and felony cases.
In 2022, Stephanie joined The Doepke Law Firm as an Associate Attorney, where she relies on her courtroom experience in a wide range of family and criminal law cases. Stephanie is a wife and a mom, so she fights for her clients each step of the way to reach the best possible outcome.

A practice backed by experience
Our firm has extensive experience handling criminal cases of all kinds, with a specialty in major felonies, including sex-related offenses. Teri has tried over 100 criminal jury trials and supervised junior attorneys in hundreds of other criminal jury trials. Teri was also assigned to handle dozens of appeals as a Chief Assistant Public Defender and has argued successfully before the Georgia Supreme Court.
In addition to traditional criminal defense practice, Teri served as the defense attorney representative for the Accountability Courts in the Alcovy Circuit and has spent significant time during her career in training others in areas such as fundamentals of criminal defense practice, and drug courts and mental health courts.
Teri is admitted to practice in State, Superior, Appellate, and Supreme Courts of Georgia and is a member of the State Bar of Georgia, the Georgia Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers, the Newton County Bar Association, and the National Association of Drug Court Professionals.
